From it’s first days of use it showed rust, inside and out where the base joins the main body of the kettle turning the water inside brown. I returned it to the Subiaco WA store for inspection and bought another Alessi kettle at another store in Karrinyup WA.

This kettle immediately showed exactly the same rust symptoms around the join. The first kettle was sent back to the distributors GCV Australia Pty Ltd NSW. When it was returned to me it was exactly as it had been sent, complete with the rust still on the base and inside. No attempt had been made to clean the kettle, with the explanation was that the kettle was not leaking and the rust looking substance is due to calcium build up.
Surely there would not be calcium build up within the first few days of usage. The water goes through two (2) filters before it gets into the kettle. I am very disappointed with the explanation and apparent dismissal by GCV Australia Pty Ltd.

I do love the kettles and do not want to be without them but…..my main concern is that having paid $275 each that their lifespan will be severely shortened due to the conditions outlined above.

I’m wondering if anyone else’s kettle has shown these symptoms?

Peter Behrens’s teakettles for AEG, on the otherhand (c.1909), featured three different metals, three different finishes, and three different handles so that you could personalize your preferences.

However, what I like about the design is the conical shape of this kettle together with the circular handle with a big diameter. A lot of times, you’ll have kettles that have large top caps and small handles. This results in the obstruction to the top cap by the handle (since handle doesn’t pivot sideways) when you’re trying to open it (for cleaning purposes) and it can be a little annoying. Thanks.
